Your digestion is still not right despite other treatments
Many people who come to me for digestive illnesses have seen a gastroenterologist or other specialists. They have a diagnosis and a treatment plan, and some are in remission. But they still suffer from persistent symptoms, and perhaps medication doesn’t fully resolve the issue.
Digestive disorders is a core of my practice and out of that experience I wrote a book to help those with inflammatory bowel disease: Recovering from Crohn’s and Colitis.
Conditions Treated
-
Inflammatory bowel disease
Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and microscopic colitis
-
SIBO
Small intestine bacterial overgrowth, especially SIBO that keeps coming back after antibiotics
-
Irritable bowel syndrome
IBS-D, IBS-C, and mixed. Including issues from
dysbiosis, gastroparesis and chronic constipation
-
Stomach Disorders
Functional dyspepsia, bloating, and upper GI discomfort
-
Post-infectious GI problems
Issues arising from food poisoning, a stomach bug, or a course of antibiotics
-
Liver/Gall Bladder
Hepatitis, fatty liver diseases, detoxification pathway support, as well as support for Gall Bladder function and inflammation
My Approach
Chinese medicine views illness in an individual way. Two people with the same diagnosis can have very different underlying functional patterns: one runs hot and inflamed, another is depleted and cold, a third is driven by stress and tension. The treatment follows the pattern, not the official diagnosis.
In practice that means:
-
Targeted herbal formulas and judicious use of minimal other supplements as needed
-
Dietary guidance that is specific to you, not another elimination list
-
Acupuncture where it helps, particularly for pain, nausea, and stress-driven symptoms. Acupuncture is one of the few therapies that can directly regulate the autonomic nervous system’s influence on digestive function.
What Care Looks Like
Before your first visit I review your records: colonoscopy and pathology reports, labs, imaging, and your current medications. The initial consultation runs 60-90 minutes, in person or by telehealth. We make a treatment plan, and check in with regularity to evaluate your progress.
Digestive illness that took years to develop rarely resolves in weeks. Most people notice changes within the first few weeks; but lasting stability takes longer.
Working with your GI doctor
I work alongside your gastroenterologist, not instead of them. I won’t ask you to stop or change prescribed medication, including biologics, mesalamine, or steroids. Every formula is checked against your medication list. With your permission, I send your doctor a summary of my assessment and plan.
If you develop symptoms that need medical attention, such as bleeding, fever, or signs of obstruction, I’ll send you back to them promptly.
Get started
If you’ve been living with digestive illness that hasn’t fully responded to treatment, I’d be glad to hear from you.
